While the Nassau-Suffolk Department is made up of primarily volunteer representation, the paid departments make up the ninth highest paid metro area for firefighters. Suffolk County also supports a high-level training facility which includes a confined space simulator, natural gas burn tower with power jam doors, and specialized hurricane code training.

The construction of the new Pump Test/Storage building is scheduled to start in the fall of this year which will allow testing up to 4000gpm.
